|Based on my Butternut HF6V review, I received this question today from KB2TZK:
|I am thinking about the 9 band vertical. My space & money limits what I can do. A multiband vertical seems to be the answer. I am wondering between a roof mount or ground any ideas? My space in the yard is surround by a L shape chain link fence. The feed line would probably be 100' to the shack. The snow does pile up sometimes 4'. Any help on this would be appreciated. |
You'll probably want to check out my review and ice storm pics on my
website if you haven't already done so:
You'll see that my Butternut HF6V was mounted on a pipe attached to a
chain link fence and had resonant radials at the feedpoint. It wasn't
perfect, but I had limited options at the time. If I were to do it
over again, I'd probably choose a SteppIR BigIR III (with 80m loading
coil) and a set of elevated radials.
That would be a bit more expensive, but fewer headaches (I'd think)
and better performance.
