The Valor ProAm is a stick type HF mobile antenna similar to the HamStick. 3/8 inch X 24 thread at the base. Rated at 250 W.
I have used these off and on over the years with limited success. Anyone else? |

Since I am a mobileer and have been itching to see what I could do on 160, I finally followed thru and picked up a PH-160 (160M) mobile antenna. It has an understandably narrow bandwidth but will tune over the entire band and swr at resonance is well below 1.5:1 when mounted vertically atop a 48" mast on the rear bumper of my Jeep Cherokee (XJ). That puts the base about level with my roof. I have also found that the height issue can be resolved a bit with use of the Hot-Rodz cap top hat setup.
Though I have tuned it to a good swr, I have not really tried out the actual performance since most of the traffic I have monitored is rag-chews and I am not in the habit of breaking into 'good-ole-boys' coffee shop chat just to get a quick QSO and propagation check. Maybe when here is a contest going and I have the time to put it back on (normally run the Hustler mobile setup) I will give it a real-world propagation check.
