Recently moved up to Firefox from IE and found your goodies for it. Thanks, they really add to the Firefox browser while on the air and I surprisingly see no difference in performance while they are running. As for your site, it is a nice clean design and best of all easy to navigate.

I live about a mile west of the plant in Ames.

Over the past couple years, a lot of PowerFilm products have been shipped to Iraq & Afghanistan. The military likes to reduce the number of trips it makes to resupply generators and one way to do that is with solar power.

This month, we've shipped a lot of our flexible solar panels and tents to Haiti. The military makes sure our products get over there fast as power is so badly needed to make other things happen. The "local sales rep" who's a ham is actually their VP of Engineering and a friend of mine. So, now there's two hams on the management team at PowerFilm.

Thanks for the comments about PowerFilm though. I hope to get PowerFilm products (like our solar tents) into the hands of many more clubs for next field day!

PowerFilm is a local company in my neck of the woods, they make outstanding products. They were gracious enough to donate a large solar panel for us to use for Field Day 2009. It was awesome! I hope we can do it again. We also got a club presentation about PowerFilm from a local sales rep that happened to be one of our members.

Absolutely! It's time to move the radio below the table. With a SDR there is no logical reason anymore to have this big black box sitting on your table. SDR provide us the freedom to design the user interface how we like to have it.
I held a presentation on this topic last year at the Hamfest in Friedrichshafen, Germany. You can download it from my website at:

I was discussing the same article on my website here:

http://www.k5po.net/journal/2009/7/1/almost-a-sunspot-new-news-on-the-solar-front.html

Very fascinating to hear about some of the sun's inner workings that play into the solar cycle timing. Seems to be promising news!

I have a google news feed setup on your site using IE7. I noticed that all of your news feeds appear as if they were created the current date. Is there a way you can look into this? It should only be showing NEW feeds that I have not read. Maybe it's just me, but I read over 100 news feeds a day and I find about three of them do exactly the same as your feed works. One is the Mayo Clinic, so you are not in bad company.

I am very interested in the Flex radio information you add.

Thanks for the column.

Hi Jon

I'm in the process if migrating my site to a new hosting provider and rewriting major portions of the site.
I think I've restored the Ham Radio Product Reviews section of the site. You can give it a try again.
