A press release was posted today on the Icom website for the upcoming IC-7600. This rig is the apparent successor to the IC-756 Pro series. Unfortunately for me, the press release is in Japanese. However, Google’s English translation of the IC-7600 press release does provide some insight as to what the specs will be on [...]

Ten-Tec has announced that have discontinued the TITAN III amplifier. A simple statement posted on the Ten-Tec website seemed to suggest that the issue had to do with tube availability. The Titan III amplifier was designed with 4CX800A/GU74B tubes. I agree with some of the comments posted along with the announcement. It would be nice [...]

Command Technologies, the HF amplifier company recently acquired by tower manufacturer ANWireless, has been sold to Palstar. So Command Technologies is now a division of Palstar Inc located in Ohio. This could be a better fit for all companies involved. I’m guessing it will allow Dan Simmonds and ANWireless to focus on their outstanding line [...]

The HF ham radio contest and DX communities have a new radio to ponder – the Icom IC-7600. Icom displayed the IC-7600 over the weekend at the Tokyo hamfest. The speculation is that this rig will go into production within a year or so and will be the successor to the Icom IC-756 Pro III. [...]

Last weekend, my dad (K0GVG) and I went to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the Collins Collectors Association annual convention. This was a great opportunity to learn a bit more about the history of ham radio. Dad has several pieces of vintage Collins amateur radio equipment including a sick 75A-4 receiver that had been given to [...]

Brandon, KF6SWL, wrote me in March to ask if he could have a high resolution copy of one of my amateur radio tower pictures. He saw one that he liked on my ham radio tower project pages. He said that he needed this for his wedding plans! You see, Brandon was planning his groom’s cake. [...]

I have some solar panels that I need to sell. These are new-in-the-box Unisolar US-3 "framed" panels. Ideal for Field Day, QRP or other ham radio activities. The US-3 is rated at 2.68W at 8.1V under ideal conditions. Units have built in blocking diodes. These are in a rugged, weather-proof frame. A pair of these [...]

Flooding and massive tornado devastation here in Iowa has made life here quite challenging for many. The sunny skies today are a welcome sight to those building levees, clearing debris, pumping water out of basements and trying to restore some sense of normalcy. The Iowa EOC amateur radio station has been on the air on [...]

On Saturday, my dad (KØGVG) and I offered a Radio Merit Badge session for several Iowa Boy Scouts. We believe that, done properly, this is a great way to expose kids (and often their dads) to what could be a first step into the world of ham radio. Over the past 5 years or so [...]

You should expect to see this rig get a lot of press coverage in the coming months as well as advertising. Notable features include: 200W PA [...]
