NASA: Sunspots coming back!

Nasa reported today that the sun isn’t broken after all. Whew!

I learned a few things about the inner workings of the sun by reading this article:

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/17jun_jetstream.htm?list1061202

The sun has an internal “jet stream” that shifts latitude with the solar cycle. It’s been sluggish, but they’ve now seen it move back to where it should be headed (albeit a year or so late).

Look for sunspots and better HF radio propagation in the days ahead.

  1. I have a google news feed setup on your site using IE7. I noticed that all of your news feeds appear as if they were created the current date. Is there a way you can look into this? It should only be showing NEW feeds that I have not read. Maybe it’s just me, but I read over 100 news feeds a day and I find about three of them do exactly the same as your feed works. One is the Mayo Clinic, so you are not in bad company.

I am very interested in the Flex radio information you add.

    Thanks for the column.

  2. I was discussing the same article on my website here:

Very fascinating to hear about some of the sun’s inner workings that play into the solar cycle timing. Seems to be promising news!
