The I.C.E. man cometh – lightning protection
It took awhile, but the delivery from Industrial Communication Engineers (ICE) arrived Monday. I’m now getting close to having all that I need in terms of grounding for the new ham radio tower.
Here is the list of products that I’ll be using for lightning/surge protection in the grounding system:
- ICE Coaxial Surge Suppressors – Model 303U on each coax line grounded at the tower base (or maybe the house SPG)
- AWG 2 Solid copper wire
- 5/8″ Ground Rods (8′)
- Erico Cadweld Oneshots (to bond the tower ground wire to ground rods)
In addition to the surge protection equipment from ICE, I also picked up an ICE TV Highpass filter and an ICE Model 421 HF Lowpass filter.
My schedule has been too busy to get any work done on the tower since we installed it. That means that the grounding system is not in place yet, the cables are not made and installed, and the antennas are still in boxes. I may take a day or two next week to work on all of this.
