Just ordered a bluetooth GPS (Holux GR 231) for my Cingular 8125 PDA Phone (Cingular). With this and some PDA software apps that interface with the GPS, I should never get lost again!
What’s next? Oh, I suppose I could get back to trying APRS/CE or writing some GPS apps myself – but for now, [...]

I was getting a bit tired of the old Amazon store on NØHR.com so I completely rebuilt it using some new features from Amazon.
The new section of the site is called NØHR.com Ham Radio and PDA Store and it offers ham radio books like:
the ARRL Handbook
ON4UN’s excellent Low Band Dxing
the ARRL’s Extra Class License Manual
Arrl [...]

I’ve really started to spend a bit more time in the past few days on the next generation of MobileLog. For the longest time, I was debating the effort required to try to “port” MobileLog 1.X (for PocketPC PDAs) to the new OS and platform, but Microsoft’s changes in Windows Mobile 5 have become insurmountable. [...]

I’ve been using MMANA antenna analysis software for some time now (it’s free thanks to JE3HHT Macoto and MININEC). It’s not perfect, but for the ham radio or shortwave hobbyist, you can get a good idea of what’s going on with relatively simple HF radio antennas. The latest version has many common HF and [...]

I installed the update for Firefox 2.0 release candidate 3 today and it seems to work well with my Propfire extension (which displays radio propagation information in your Firefox status bar). Solar index information, a k-index chart, etc, all seem to work.
If anyone finds an issue with Propfire on Firefox 2.0 please let me [...]

If you have been trying to contact me via email over the past two days and have not received a reply, it is most likely due to an email outage. On Thursday evening I had switched email providers from my web hosting service to an account on Google. Getting all of that to work with [...]

I was cleaning the basement and found an old article from the Iowa State Daily (campus newspaper at Iowa State University). In my college days I was quite active in the Cyclone Amateur Radio Club – serving in various offices including President and Vice President for more years that I should have served. Anyway, in [...]

I ordered an adapter (2.5mm Headset/3.5mm Audio Headphone Adapter) for my Cingular 8125 SmartPhone. This adapter converts the proprietary 4 conductor audio jack on the PDA to both a 3.5mm audio headphone jack(for use with headphones or speakers or anything else) and to a 2.5mm headset jack. Yesterday it arrived so I [...]

I ordered the Cushcraft XM240 in June from R & L Electronics in Ohio. I’d let them know that I was working on a tower project and I needed this as soon as they could get it to me. Finally, the boxes for the XM240 have arrived! That was quite a long time to wait [...]

Another business trip means another delay to the tower project. This time I’m in Nashville, TN at a convention: Emerson User’s Group Exchange at the Gaylord Opryland. In my job as Director of Customer Support, Quality and Education for the Flow Computer Division of Emerson Process Management, I spend a lot of time talking to [...]
