Tower planning- staking a claim (in the yard)

Yesterday, I met with Matt Cooper, the excavation guy. Talking the tower foundation plan through with Matt, several interesting options and questions arose.

  • What exactly do we want to do with the excavated dirt?
  • My XYL, Lynne, mentioned that she’d like to have a concrete pad built someday - to be possibly used as a basketball court or swimming pool base.
  • What if we were to use the excavated dirt from the tower base to level ground for the concrete pad?
  • Who should we consider to do the concrete work?
  • My back yard has a septic system with lateral lines that reach nearly to the surrounding chain link fencing. How can the concrete be delivered to the tower foundation without crushing the laterals?

Here is the plan that I submitted to the county with a rough approximation of where the tower would be placed on the lot.  You can barely make out the chain link fence and even the laterals.

tower placement

Here is the tower placement that I’ve been working on (flipped around and centered on my property) to position the tower and associated antennas in just the right spot on the property. The ANWireless tower requires a 9′ x 9′ foundation. Beyond that, the antennas on top will have a ~25′ turn radius.

yard plan

The dirt removed from the tower will be used to build a level surface that can be used to build a pad for whatever Lynne wants (basketball, swimming pool, etc.).
