The ham radio product reviews section of the site is coming along (slowly). I have now entered a few reviews for some things that I’ve owned and used a lot over the years… IC-706MKIIG, High Sierra Little Sidekick, Diamond HV7A. The product reviews section has the ability to: search by vendor, search for all reviews [...]

In my 26+ years of ham radio, I’ve had several opportunities to explain ham radio to the general public. Sometimes, folks politely smile, nod and say something like “hmmm… playing with antennas and radios for fun?… different strokes for different folks I guess.” I’ve found that over the years, analogies and comparisons to fishing work [...]

For a long time, I’ve been kicking around the idea of creating a ham radio products and services review section of my website. My thinking was that there were some review sites out there (notably, the reviews section of eHam and uhhh, well not much else). The problems I had with the eHam site were: [...]

Yesterday, I met with Matt Cooper, the excavation guy. Talking the tower foundation plan through with Matt, several interesting options and questions arose. Dan made it from PA ahead of schedule and (thankfully) Bill, KØKT, was available to help off-load the tower. Had the job done in about an hour and a half. There were plenty of spectators… XYL (Lynne), father [...]

Dad (KØGVG) and I made the trek to the Cedar Rapids ARC HamFest (Summerfest). I can’t imagine what some guys are thinking… Today, I saw: Huge collections of DVDs Huge collections of 1992-era PCs (no monitors or keyboards) Huge collections of junk that have undoubtedly been to dozens of hamfests before (at the end of [...]

Had an interesting/frustrating near-QSO today that I couldn’t complete, but that was just the end of a very long day (literally). It’s too bad because I had a productive 3 day meeting in Pickering, Yorkshire, England – but the return home had some travel-headaches (which included this near QSO). Here’s my day… wake up in [...]

I’m on the road again, writing this from a nice hotel in Leeds, U.K. Ready to return home after a productive but short trip to our office in Pickering (North East of York). While on this trip, I’ve also been able to arrange the details of delivery of my tower, mast and rotor. Dan at [...]
