Propfire HF propagation monitor upgraded to support Firefox 2.0

A Propfire user wrote to let me know that it wasn’t working with Firefox 2.0 which is now in beta. So, I took a few minutes to upgrade it. If you’re a bleeding edge type who’s using Firefox 2.0 Beta, you’ll be happy to know that Propfire now supports it.
What is Propfire?  It’s a (free) [...]

New PocketPC on the way

The company I work for, Emerson Process Management, is one of many caught up in the Blackberry craze. My boss has a Blackberry, evey director and VP has one, and I’ve been the only hold-out. I’ve been dragging my heels on getting one mainly because I’ve become so attached to PocketPCs (lately my iPaq 2215). [...]

PocketPC Ham Radio evolving to include digital modes (RTTY, PSK31)

Several years ago - not long after I’d developed PPCMorse, the Morse Code tutor for PocketPC, I had folks asking me when I would create a PSK utility for PocketPCs. As much as the prospect intrigued me, I simply didn’t have the time to investigate it. I had wanted to check out what had been [...]

Matt said that the excavation for my tower base (9′x9′x5′) would be easy (compared to what they do I’m sure that’s right). He really recommended that I look at a concrete pumper truck and thought that a small crane should be [...]

Best Ham Radio Links page now blocking bogus link additions

My Best Ham Radio Links page has always been restricted to only include links directly related to ham radio. I don’t want to let it get polluted with a bunch of junk links. Who would use that? In my opinion, some other ham radio directory sites have allowed so many fringe categories and links (CB [...]

SteppIR Arrives - My ham radio tower project is underway

A few weeks ago, I placed my orders for my summer tower project. This includes:

SteppIR 4 Element Yagi
ANWireless 70′ Self-supporting tower
Cushcraft XM-240 40 Meter 2 Element Yagi (shorty forty)
22′ Mast

Yesterday the SteppIR arrived. I’m currently leaning towards the AlfaSpid rotator. Antennas for 80m and 160m will be wire antennas or verticals. This will [...]

Ham Radio ShackBlog added to NØHR website

I thought I should add a ham radio shackBlog to post my notes on installing a tower, using new ham software, and so on. We’ll see how well this blog thing works.
