Ham Radio - A contact sport

Just ran into a roadblock with the SL-1+ and my pair of Icom radios. I have the Icom IC-746 at home and the IC-706 MKIIg in the car. The idea was to order the Tigertronics unit with a connector that would allow it to work with either radio. So, when ordering the unit, I checked their radio interfaces page:

As I was not at home when placing the order, I called and asked if the SLCAB6PM 6 pin mini DIN data connector would work with either radio. The sales staff said that would work, the only problem would be providing power.

Unfortunately, when I tried to use the unit tonight with my IC-746, I discovered that the radio doesn’t have a 6 pin mini DIN connector in back. Arrgh. At least I was able to try it on the IC-706. Seemed to work, but band conditions were pretty poor.  Maybe another day.

At least I was able to verify that the PocketDigi program would key the radio triggering the PTT through the interface box! Cool. Now I just need some propagation (and a cable for the IC-746).
