New PocketPC on the way
The company I work for, Emerson Process Management, is one of many caught up in the Blackberry craze. My boss has a Blackberry, evey director and VP has one, and I’ve been the only hold-out. I’ve been dragging my heels on getting one mainly because I’ve become so attached to PocketPCs (lately my iPaq 2215). It handles my email and calendar (sync’ed via Outlook on my PC), acts as my MP3 player (typically playing the NIV Audio Bible by Max McLean during my commute or listening to Jars of Clay during a flight), stores files, etc.
Of course, all of that is in addition to ham radio apps typically running on my PDA (MobileLog, PPCMorse or PocketDigi). I couldn’t envision either giving up the PocketPC or having to carry yet another device when I travel. Despite all that, I buckled under pressure last week and ordered the Blackberry.
Today, I was getting ready for a trip and got a call from the corporate telcom guy. He said that if I was interested, they were going to soon approve a new model of Blackberry and wanted to know if I was interested. The product he was suggesting was the Cingular 8120 PocketPC phone. This sounds perfect! I can get the advantages of a Blackberry, can continue development and use of my PocketPC software and can throw away my Siemen’s phone.
This means I’ll be working on making sure MobileLog works well on Windows Mobile 5. Additionally, I’ve recently purchased some new PocketPC database development software, so I’m planning on completing MobileLog 2.0 sometime this summer.
