PocketPC Ham Radio evolving to include digital modes (RTTY, PSK31)

Several years ago - not long after I’d developed PPCMorse, the Morse Code tutor for PocketPC, I had folks asking me when I would create a PSK utility for PocketPCs. As much as the prospect intrigued me, I simply didn’t have the time to investigate it. I had wanted to check out what had been done in the Linux world for PSK and port that code to PocketPC.

Finally, someone got around to doing just that.  OK1IAK , ported  guts of the Linux gMFSK  application to PocketPC - creating PocketDigi. Finally, PSK31, RTTY and even CW sending and receiving are possible on PDAs. I’ve volunteered to help a bit and have started by writing a quick how-to page. I plan to do more since the code is all on sourceforge.

My next step is to  write/post some more documentation on the sourceforge page (and my page), connect a radio interface box to the PDA and work someone from the iPAQ. The radio box I’ve ordered is the Tigertronics SL-1+ interface. The main reason for choosing the Tigertronics unit is that it uses the audio lines to automagically trigger a PTT (using VOX on the rig) unlike other interfaces that require a serial port (or USB) to trigger the PTT on the radio (for example, the Rigblaster).
