Ham Radio: Yagi

Description:  Many ham radio operators use Yagi (or beam) antennas to maximize gain and improve front-to-back signal ratios (gain). The Yagi antenna (formally known as the Yagi-Uda antenna) uses a balun fed dipole antenna and some number of parasitic elements (passive radiators that are not connected to the feedline directly). Yagis are used in ham radio on HF, VHF, and UHF quite regularly and have even been used in low-band operations by hams on 80 meters.

Bent element yagi for attics

Bent element yagi for attics. This is a horzontally polarized three Element Yagi. The bent Elements cause very little performance lose. When you consider it is only 8ft. 5" wide and 7ft. 6" long and still has 6.2dbi gain and 20db front to back ratio. And when you off center feed it you get a perfect 50 ohm match to coaxial cables. The SWR is less than 2to1 for 600khz. Not bad for a Antenna that the neighbors don't even know exist.

VE6FI - Contest station and antenna information

VE6FI is a contesting station located near Edmonton Alberta, Canada. It is located on 80 acres of land. Most of the antennas are homebrew and would include mono banders on 10, 15, 20, and 40 meters. An 'In Line' four vertical phased array is used on 80 meters.

There are four home brew amplifiers described including 4-1000A, pair of 3-500Z and a pair of 8877's

We are in major contests and have over 100,000 contacts in the log.

The station is owned by Evan, Ve6fi and operated and maintained by Denis Ve6aq. Denis has remoted the station to his own QTH some 20 kms away.
