| Description: Radio direction finding ("Fox hunting"). A fox hunt is a special type of ham radio contest. Someone hides a small, low-power transmitter in a town and the rest of the ham radio operators use direction finding equipment to locate the transmitter. Skills obtained in this "radio sport" are useful in real-world applications - such as finding a lost hiker or tracking down nuisance transmitters (interferenece). Many ham radio clubs sponsor fox hunts on a regular basis. |

K0OV Offset Attenuator
The K0OV Offset Attenuator is sold as a kit and completed assembly by KE6HTS (Marvin). These are used by fox-hunting (Amateur Radio Direction Finding) enthusiasts to provide a means of attenuation (and freq shift) when signals are especially strong. By offsetting the frequency a few MHz, leakage issues can be addressed. An offset attenuator consists of a local oscillator (LO) connected to a diode mixer through the attenuation control. The higher the LO level, the higher the amplitude of the offset signal applied to the receiver. To increase attenuation, decrease the LO signal into the mixer with the control.
