The IC-746 was a very good radio for its time and is surely one of the better values on the ham radio used market.
DSP, IF filtering and optional crystals make this a pretty good receiver for the average ham who doesn\'t need an extreme contest or DX rig. Of course, there are much better receivers built into radios today like the IC-756 Pro III, but they were developed more recently and cost quite a bit more.
The built-in auto tuner works across a fairly wide range even in some difficult tuning situations (like the low end of 80 meters on my Butternut vertical).
The user interface and overall design could have been better.
The IC-746 provides good value for a rig that offers HF/6/2 capabilities and will not break the bank.
