Summary: Dependable 3-500Z amp
January 26th, 2007

The Ten-Tec Centurion (model 422B) is a dependable amp and gives hams a lot of bang-for-their-buck. I've known contest station owners who have had reliability issues with other amplifiers and have switched to Centurions and love them.

It reliably gives 1200W in CW or RTTY operation. CW ops will love the quiet and fast QSK with the Centurion. This is an amp that takes a lot of abuse in terms of SWR. You won't find that in a solid state amp.

The Centurion has a clean design from an ease-of-use standpoint. It's small footprint means that it will fit into your ham shack nicely. There is some fan noise although most say that it is tolerable.

Maintaining the TenTec Centurion is relatively easy.

Are they indestructible? Of course not. I've seen them fail in the heat of battle. However, they put up with a lot and are a great HF amp option if you need a KW or more.

Conclusion... overall, this amp is a winner.
