Flex 5000
The FLEX-5000A is the cornerstone of the FLEX-5000 family and represents the next generation of software defined radios that integrates all I/Q audio and hardware control over a single FireWire (IEEE-1394) connection to a user provided computer. Additionally, all analog to digital conversions are performed internally in the FLEX-5000 so an external sound card is not required as with earlier versions of software defined radio hardware. It is designed for hams that want to utilize the flexibility of using an external computer to run FlexRadio PowerSDR™.
The FLEX-5000A was designed from the ground up to be the ultimate software defined radio in terms of capabilities and performance. Ultra high performance DACs and ADCs are directly responsible for its phenomenal dynamic range and third order intercept numbers, making it one of the top two performing amateur radios available at any cost. The other strong points for the FLEX-5000A is its expandability and configuration flexibility. A variety of user installable upgrades such as the ATU (antenna tuning unit), RX2 (2nd independent full performance receiver) and the upcoming multi-mode, all-band high power 144/400 MHz transverter makes the FLEX-5000A a truly full-featured amateur radio transceiver.
The FLEX-5000C, built on the solid foundation of the FLEX-5000A, takes software defined radios to new levels of integration, convenience and mobility by incorporating an Intel Core2 Duo processor running Windows XP Professional inside the radio. The FLEX-5000C model has all of the features of a FLEX-5000A in addition to the built in Intel Core2 Duo processor. This is truly the definitive SDR for remote operation and DXepditions. Combined with its wireless keyboard and mouse, the only connections you have to make are the antenna and power to be on the air in no time!
