Summary: FB Mobile Antenna
August 18th, 2006
If you are looking for a good small motorized antenna, the Sidekick by High Sierra may be exactly what you need.
I have been using the Sidekick for about a year and it and has held up both mechanically and electrically. It is one of the smallest screwdriver-type ham radio antennas available, yet it seems to put out a decent signal compared to other antennas I have used (Diamond HV7A and HamSticks).
Installation went smoothly, the company was very easy to work with and the product has been reliable in the time I have had it on the air (mounted on my Camry).
Tuning time seems to be about what you would expect. Electrically, it is of course very short on lower bands - so finding a match may not always be easy. Grounding and installation techniques are the keys to success with these antennas - so don't criticize it unless you have taken the time to install it properly.
In summary, this little antenna works well considering its size.
