Summary: Better choices in logging
February 14th, 2008

From what I can tell, Logger was once the most popular logging package around - mostly because of its price (free). I used it for years and eventually moved away (although I do test new revs every now and then).  Over time, other free logbook packages began to offer alternatives to Logger (DXLabs/DXkeeper, Ham Radio Deluxe, etc.) and the many commercial ham radio logbook packages because to sell to their strong points (flexibility, ease of use, quick time to market of new features such as rig interface support, integration with LOTW, QSL printing, etc.).

Logger does not adhere to conventional Windows programming standards and some users have been frustrated by support via the forums (although I think this has improved in recent years). The attitude of the original developer was pretty bad (well documented in the yahoo forums) and I had run into a bit of that myself. This is in contrast to the DXLabs support which is great.

On the plus side, it did a decent job of managing QSOs. Award tracking was OK and the overall learning curve wasn't that bad (could have been a bit better).

These days, there are better choices when it comes to managing your QSOs...
