The K0OV Offset Attenuator is sold as a kit and completed assembly by KE6HTS (Marvin). These are used by fox-hunting (Amateur Radio Direction Finding) enthusiasts to provide a means of attenuation (and freq shift) when signals are especially strong. By offsetting the frequency a few MHz, leakage issues can be addressed. An offset attenuator consists of a local oscillator (LO) connected to a diode mixer through the attenuation control. The higher the LO level, the higher the amplitude of the offset signal applied to the receiver. To increase attenuation, decrease the LO signal into the mixer with the control.
