This antenna is an ok, compromise mobile multiband ham radio HF antenna. If you need a single, low-profile HF mobile antenna that works on multiple bands (including VHF/UHF), then consider this one. If you must have a high-performance antenna or do not care about using the same antenna for everything than look elsewhere.
Pros:
The Diamond HV7A looks good and works ok. You can change bands without pulling the car to the side of the road. It has a low profile in the wind and is not as hard to install as other antennas. The band loading coils for the various ham bands (10m, 12m, 15m, 17m, 20m, 40m) are easily replaced if damaged.
Cons:
The HV7A certainly will not be as good as a screwdriver-type antenna in terms of performance and is more mechically complicated than a HamStick. Tuning can be a little tricky during installation, but if you have a good ground and are using an antenna analyzer, it will work. The 60W rating is fairly low compared to other models. Coils have been known to fail (but are easily replaced).
